On Sunday the 6th of October Richard attended the
British Dog Grooming Championships 2013.

In the morning classes he groomed a Welsh Terrier in the clipped terrier or schnauzer class and placed first. In the afternoon classes he trimmed a Bichon Frise in the pure breed scissor class and placed first again.

Both these class wins were in the experienced level so Richard then had to compete to decide the winner of the experienced group which he went onto win with his Bichon, and his Welsh went into the reserve place!!! So the two top awards in this category were taken by Richard.

As well as the usual classes the championship also gives out five Special awards for certain areas of achievement or prospects in certain groomers. Richard was chosen by the panel of judges as the winner of the "One To Watch" award which highlights potential groomers who the judges believe may go on to greater things within the industry.

As the overall winner of the experienced group Richard then had to compete for best in show and the title of Groomer Of The Year. It was a very tense time, with all five judges scrutinising over the top 4 groomers competing for this title. Richard was called by the announcer as Runner Up British Dog Groomer Of The Year 2013!!!!!! A huge win in the industry and a truly magical day for him and his hardworking team at The Doggie Stylists.

Richard’s a winner at
The English Groomers Challenge 2013

Richard competed at the English Groomers Challenge on Sunday 2nd June 2013. This prestigious competition is held annually in Kent.

There were around 80 groomers competing at this event from all over the country and the competition was fierce. Richard entered a Yorkshire Terrier in the Real Life class at the Experienced Level. Real Life is where you can trim any breed of dog not to a breed standard. This give you the opportunity to be a bit creative and try different styles on various breeds or cross breeds. Richard decided to do a Schnauzer type trim on this Yorkshire as he feels they suit this trim very much. Various clients who visit the salon also like this style on their Yorkies.

Richard was thrilled to achieve a second place in this category and it was a great day for him to be flying the flag for The Doggie Stylists.
